What's Been Occuring?
Another smashing season for Cleobury Mortimer Volleyball Club! The 2023/24 season saw all 3 teams finish top of their leagues! Cleobury Men won their promotion chase last season to go up into division 1 of the West Midlands Volleyball League and came away this season with GOLD! The Ladies 1st team placed top of the table after a great season and only 1 game lost in division 1 and the Ladies 2nd team claimed an amazing first place in division 2. Cleobury Ladies 1 won themselves a place in the West Midlands Cup Final, but unfortunately the final didn't go to plan due to a vegan festival (no joke), but not to worry- the final will be taking place soon! (date to be confirmed).
We had multiple members of our juniors represent West Midlands U17s and U15's in the Volleyball England Inter-Regional tournament. West Mids U17 boys -Dan Kendall, West Mids U17 girls - Erin Hickman, West Mids U15 boys - Fred Carrick & Harry Hall and West Mids U15 girls - Ruby Jones. It wasn't just a weekend for the juniors, with Cleobury coaches Carl 'Boggy' Brookes and Emma 'Sip' Gallagher there to coach and guide them along. One of our Cleobury Men's players James Ledbury is currently party of the England Senior Men's Squad and has participated in multiple tournaments during the year. And it's not just our juniors who have expanded their talents, we also have multiple adult members and juniors representing Black Country Volleyball Club in the National Volleyball League.

CMVC has reached ENGLAND!
JAMES LEDBURY

Mr Ledbury was part of the England Men’s squad who back in August jetted off to South Korea to play in the International University Tournament, playing against USA, Australia & Vietnam in their first pool matches. They beat the USA 3-1, they beat Australia 3-2 and lost to Vietnam 3-1, but continued through to the semi-finals against the hosts, South Korea. An unfortunate loss against the hosts saw the England Men face Japan in a fight to come away with a medal. And guess what- They came away with BRONZE, beating Japan 3-1. A fantastic achievement Mr Ledbury, we look forward to seeing more great achievements from you!
Here's what he had to say: "Going to South Korea was the best volleyball experience I've ever had and it opened my eyes to the different styles of volleyball there are. The honour of putting on the England shirt is something I've wanted since I was in juniors so to do it again in South Korea is something I'm extremely grateful for."

cHlOe PoTtER
A fabulous year for Miss Potter, who not only represented England at this years All Nations tournament in London back in June, she has also been selected as part of the official Volleyball England U19 Womens squad! Can't wait to see what great things come from her!
MVP WINNER! Miss Potter was awarded Volleyball England's U19's Coaches Player of the year for the 2022/23 season! Absolutely phenomenal, great work Chlo Bow!
Here's what she had to say: "I have been training with the England Junior Women Squad since 2021 and have made loads of new friends from clubs all around the country, as we travel to Kettering each month for training."
NOVOTEL CUP
JAMES LEDBURY

Cleobury's setter & opposite James Ledbury was part of the England Men’s squad who claimed their first ever victory in the Novotel Cup! The squad travelled to Luxembourg just after Christmas to compete in the tournament, winning 3 out of 3 of their games! First up they beat Austria 3-0 (25-21, 28-26, 25-20). They then faced the hosting team Luxembourg, which proved to be a tougher game. They came out on top, beating them 3-1 (25-17, 29-31, 25-17, 25-10) They then went on to beat France 3-0 in their final game of the tourney (25-21, 25-18, 25-19). A fantastic victory for England, the first time they've come away with GOLD in the Novotel Cup, and I'm sure it wont be the last time! Well done Mr Ledbury!
Here's what he had to say: "Going to Luxembourg with the England team was a huge honour, especially with it being the best England squad for a few years. The experience of going out to an international tournament with such a strong squad is invaluable to me and my development and I hope to learn from the experience. Playing for Black Country and Cleobury under Boggy's coaching has helped me massively, his encouragement and support to pursue my volleyball journey has helped me so much, so shoutout to Bog!"
Awesome stuff Ledders, well done from everyone at CMVC!
ENG CLUB STORM - CORNACCHIA WORLD CUP 2024
This April, Miss Chloe Potter jetted off to Italy to represent England Club Storm in the Cornacchia World Cup! The girls played some great volleyball, met some great people and had an awesome time. Well done to you all!

CUP FINALS CHAMPS 2023
The ladies were up first against a strong Birmingham City side, but with determination, hard work and cheers from the fabulous supporters who attended, they claimed a 3-1 victory and.........
CAME AWAY WITH GOLD!

What a year for CMVC! Both our Mens and Ladies 1 team competed in the West Midlands Cup Final day at Centre AT7, Coventry on Saturday 3rd June.
Next up were the Men who faced a strong Wombourne side. Nothing could stop them as they pulled out all the stops and claimed a fantastic 3-0 victory and.........
CAME AWAY WITH GOLD!

Thank you to everyone who came and supported us, judging by the smiles and grins it's easy to say it was a brilliant day! And last but not least, a HUGE thank you to the man of the club, the top dog, Mr Carl Boggy Brookes. Your continuous hard work and dedication to the club is most appreciated.

LIFE'S A BEACH
Why travel to the bright coastal beaches of the UK when you can find SAND in Birmingham?
Great to see Cleobury faces at the WMVA Beach tourny at Moseley back in August! The weather somehow held up and saw a great day with plenty of play! (Dr Seuss, 2023).
